After graduating from high school, dropping out of law studies, a long-lasting career as a supermarket cashier and a six-month stay in Australia, I work as a food technologist in a chocolate factory nowadays. Although I love my sweet job and the life in Switzerland, I often get itchy feet.
This trip has always been a dream of mine. It must be fantastic being away from responsibilities, having the time to visit some of the most incredible places on earth and discover some wonders of this planet. Together with Matt, with whom I live and travel for 7 years now, I want to strike new paths.
Matt is the perfect (travel) partner for me, because he also stays patient, when I’m at my wits’ end, because he has the ability to get excited about the most insignificant things in the world and (sometimes) because of his perfectionism.
I grew up in Mirchel, a village of 500 souls in the Emmental from where I completed my apprenticeship as an electronics technician. Without losing any time, I graduated 4 years later with a degree in electrical engineering and have been working in this industry for several years since.
As a software developer, my work-life balance has suffered more and more lately. I suddenly had the feeling that time flies and each day is like the other. Therefore is NOW the right time to go on this journey and experience new things. Who knows what the future will bring?
Alex is the perfect (travel) partner for me, because of her boundless optimism, her ingenious ideas and, I hate to admit it, but her chaotic nature has already brought unexpected luck.
BALOO
Baloo is the name of our Toyota Landcruiser HZJ75. His previous owners already called him like that. We just adopted the name without thinking about alternatives. Later we realized, that the name suits our companion very well.
On the one hand we associate ourselves as Bernese with bears, because it’s the heraldic animal of Berne. On the other hand Baloo is, like his famous name giver from The Jungle Book, also heavy, big and relaxed on his way.
“The Bare Necessities” also reflects our plans with Baloo accurately.
